Does anyone know of any manuals for the repair of the electric mechanism that puts the top up and down on a 1992 964. Mine stopped working and makes a bad crunching sound when trying to engage.
The only manuals I know of are the factory. The top has 2 transmission,one on each side, when they get out of time from the cables coming out of the motor. be carefull because this can break the b-pillar of the top and result in the top being torn. in the owners manual you will see a procedure to loosen the transmissions using the wheel nut wrench and put the top in emergency mode.
It's going to be expensive but I suggest a shop with Porsche top experience. I worked at a dealer and would see what some trim shops would try to do. This is a difficult top to work with and the canvas isn't cheap, so check out some of their work before you let them work on your car
I have a factory Cabriolet test plan manual for the 1986 911 and after checking the parts illustrations found that the 1986 911 and the 1992 C2 use the same drive motors. If you can't find a test plan for your model, maybe you can use the 1986 test plan. The factory part number for the test plan is WKD 492 620. BW
Yup, the B-pillar on the driver side broke and ripped the top...I bought a new top and am waiting for the new / used bracket...can a guy with descent mechanical common sense disassemble the top and the top? I am willing to be patient and to work on it because I've gotten a quote for $450.00 just for the manual work...Components cost me $450.00 for a new top & headliner and $275 for the bracket...

if you look at the top from the inside , where the front and rear canvas meet there is a bar that is bolted. this has to come loose. top sounds real cheap is it a robbins? they are good put the price sounds low. anyway look over the top real good maybe take some digital pics of it so you can remember what it looked like. THank you for your comments. The top is from 'Rich and Famous Tops' in Van Nuys, CA. It made from OEM materials and looked good upon receipt. Even bought the headliner piece for $25.00 and it has the OEM herringbone pattern & etc.
I'll email you for the photos...I couldn't believe all of the glue that they use to put the canvas top onto the front and mid frame bars!
Would you know where and what kind of black/tar/like adhesive that I can buy for the seals? Also couldn't believe all of the rivets that I had to take off of the rain gutter trim on both sides of the vehicle...
I have just purchased a 1990 and a 1991 carrera 2 cab for our dealership for resale the 1991 needs a top I purchased a sta-fast top from world upholstery in CA, can a guy with good to excellent mechanical skills install this top, I was quoted 450.00 by my interior guy and do you have any directions as to the install available. Also on my 2000 996 cab a rear window was installed last summer and now to falls about 3 inches short of closing and I have to help it by hand is there any adjustment, by the why I took upon myself to monkey with the top transmissions on my 1987 cab hence snapping the roll bar and ripping the top very painful and expensive, I able to get the roll bar tig welded. thanks for any help you can provide.
I'm sorry for reviving this thread. The topic here caught my attention because this was also my issue a couple of weeks ago. Just a heads up to this, my cousin told me that the repair manual for electric mechanism can be found at Porsche dealer but sad to say, selected branch only. I also tried to look for online carparts and manual but most of them are only suitable for other porsche models.
