91 passat fuel pump fuse problems

Hello everyone,
After a trip to the car wash to remove all the salt and snow from my car I drove around for about 20 minutes then my car stalled. First thing i checked was the fuse for my fuel pump. It was blown. I replaced it and it blew 2 minutes later. The car made it home.
While i was pressure washing my car (around the tires) did i do something to my fuel pump? Or could there be another problem?
If i have to take it to a garage, is there anyway to avoid towing it. Can i rig something up to the fuse panel?
Thanks for the help.

I'd jack the rear right wheel up a bit and get underneath the car. The main fuel pump is in front of that tire. There is an electrical connector going to it. Remove the connector and make sure you don't have excessive corrosion on it. Clean it as need be and then reconnect it. See if that works. If not, my guess is your fuel pump is probably dying. In such a case I would suggest you don't use a larger fuse or a jumper to run the fuel pump as there is a risk of fire if the current draw is too high.
