Well, I have certainly had fun this afternoon. After installing a New Radio (Amateur Radio VHF Transceiver) in the car, I plugged up the lighter plug into the cigarette lighter in the car and heard a nice little "pop" turns out the radio manufacture WIRED THE plug wrong. So, I checked the fuse box under the steering column none of the fuses where broke, burnt or scared. I took out the center column to get a better look at what could be wrong; no power was getting to the plug for the cigarette lighter. Is there another fuse inline for the cig lighter I'm just not seeing? This is a 1997 Jetta VR6 (GLX). Thanks

Sincerely,

I want to use my radio BADLY :>

Matt

Your owner's manual should list fuse positions. For 1997, the lighter fuse no longer shares power with the radio; instead, it has a separate fuse up above the fuse panel by the relays (S48, 15 amp).

Your car is covered in our book:
Volkswagen Jetta, Golf, GTI, Cabrio Service Manual: 1993-1999
http://www.bentleypublishers.com/product.htm?code=VG99

or in our CD:
Volkswagen Golf, GTI, Jetta: 1993-1999, Cabrio 1995-2002
Official Factory Repair Manual on CD-ROM
http://www.bentleypublishers.com/product.htm?code=VEA3

If this fuse isn't your problem, you'll need one of these for the wiring diagrams... but I bet it is just the fuse.

We also carry the owner's manual for your car:
Volkswagen Jetta Owner's Manual (bi-lingual): 1997
English and French
http://www.bentleypublishers.com/product.htm?code=RJ97

Hope this helps,
Chris

Thanks for that reply Falken.. I tore my dash apart looking for that 15A fuse before I came here.. After seeing your reply, I pulled the relay box down and there it was.. It is attached to the top of the relay box.. The book doesn't show it in thier picture.

Thanks!
