My 2002 525i (127,500 miles) recently started emitting blue exhaust smoke on start up only. Noticing a small oil leak from the engine. I would like to know likely scenario's so the local mechanic just doesn't start swapping parts.

Thanks for insights.

Most common is the crankhouseventilation is stocked or the returnpipe from the ventilation in the oillevelpipe is full of dirt.

A compression test won't show any problems with pipe stem seals, as the valves are connected during compression. If it's blue smoke it can only be down to heating oil.
