I am considering installing a transmission oil cooler on my 97 A4 AWD, 1.8T. The reason is not for towing but to bypass the cooler built into the radiator. The bolts that hold the cooler lines into the radiator are sheared off and the lines are really corroded. I could replace the lines and the radiator if I can get the bolt out but thinking about saving money. My question is will putting in a cooler cause havoc on the tranny? I don't know if the tranny requires a specific operating temperature? I have heard that cooler tranny fluid is better but I know how Audi specs are very stringent. Can anyone shed some light on this.
