Bought a 2002 Mini Cooper S with the all the power unit removed, the previous owner had taken it into a garage who stripped it and diagnosed it needing a new engine the owner bought a new car.
I bought it from Copart, I've built up the unit and it runs fantastic but with a new alternator and power steering pump fitted, they dont work.
It has been to a local auto electrician and two specialist firms but the problem has not been resolved.
I have checked all the connection and they are good green/white on the multi plug connecting the engine loom to the car loom green / white wire should provide an ignition feed from fuse F39 but is dead, with the door pilar fuse box removed the wire from that the purple multiplug on the fuse box which starts off as green/white soon to changes to black in a black rubber shrink wrap that looks professionally done and then goes through a grommet in the A pillar above the fuse box coming out near the bonnet strut and is covered by a black coiled protecto but the wire has been cut off approx where it enters the ABS recess.
Nobody can tell me where this wire is supposed to go or what is missing that will provide an ignition feed to the alternator and power steering pump.
Please can anyone help.
Forgot a couple of things 1st specialist using autologic cleared all the fault codes and got it charging but said the power steering pump was knackered even thought it was brand new, so left the heavy cables disconnected and said when a new pump was fitted it would new the new faults cleared but these would not affect anything. It charged for about 10 miles on the way home, then the battery light came on and the garage was closed. I fitted another new pump and that didn't work, so it went into the second specialist.
I have an 02 S (UK car which will be the same as yours given you've bought from Copart) which l need to do a bit of work on re. the power steering. In my it's cutting out and may be due to overheating.
Need to put it on the ramp and troubleshoot so I may be able to give you reference voltages etc. on the connectors if that will help? Alternatively I may be able to trace the wires for you if you give me a picture of where the wires are chopped on your car.
Thanks for your reply that would be great, I have checked another Cooper S and it doesn't have the wire, I describe if your does, I tried to load the picture to this site but it would not let me.
If it has and I put my email address on here, will you send me a message so that I will send the picture email to you.
Or is there another way.
