i have a 2000 golf gls 2.0 liter with 4 speed automatic trans with an ELY code. Transmission is bad can anyone tell me if a trans with an ECV code is compatible with my ELY code thanks

Hello, di'svw

I took a look at the transmission identification section of the eBahn repair manual. Both the ECV and ELY are 01M automatic transmissions. The specifications of the ECV and ELY read almost identically. In fact, the only difference I'm seeing in the numbers is a possible difference in the torque converters these two transmissions were originally matched up with.

That being said, there isn't any more information, and there is no information on compatibility or interchangeability of transmissions. My only recommendation is, if possible, to locate a transmission with identical codes, so as to eliminate any unanticipated compatibility problems.
