I'm repairing 09/97 528 4dr sedan. When key is off most instrument panel lights, exterior lights, heater blower etc remain on apx. 95% of time. Customer installed, at battery post, switch to manually turn everything off. I thought check ignition switch. As a side note, as I was testlighting ignition switch for power and such, touching #3 green wire terminal turned all lights, etc off like normall which lasted a little because overnight it all came alive again as battery died reading at 7volts in the morning. Went to local library, found new 2 volume bmw 5 series e39 97-03 service manual set. I looked for hour and a half for ignition switch wiring diagram. I'd like to know where the 9 wires at ignition switch go. Bentley manuals are mostly very informative.

"as I was testlighting ignition switch for power and such, touching #3 green wire terminal"

Step 1 throw away test light and get a volt ohm meter

You might have damaged something, you are going to need a scanner to do a full scan and see what kind of faults are systems
