Ive been trying to time a 318i (1985) that has the L-jetronic and the Siemens Ignition with the 096 Dizzy well I can see the ball bearing looking thing but when I use that at 4000 the car starts to surge and the RPM are way up (1200) or higher. also my NOX is so high that the car wont pass smog like 2800 ppm (700 is allowable).. I look for the Z but all i See is a line at about where 15BTDC at 2000 would be... as stated on the Inside of the hood .. i lined up the Rotor with number one and presto the ball is dead center in the bell housing hole... I tried setting the light at 15 deg BTDC and got the RPMs to 850 and presto the line is in the hole but ... Why no Z and remember there is a Ball also ....Very Confusing.. is the ball used with the light set at Zero or 26*BTDC... or is the line used with no advance set on the light? (or vice versa)
