Tiguan trailer brake wiring

I have a 2010 SEL with the factory trailer controller pre-installed. I purchased part # ZVW 808 007 to connect the factory harness to the 7 pin connector at the back, and everything works fine. All lights work, and the alarm even goes off when I disconnect the trailer when the car is locked. So far, so good.
Now I want to add a brake controller to pull a heavier trailer with brakes. The factory harness does not have any wire going to the "brake" pin on the connector.
What do I need? Is there a wire in a harness somewhere that all I need to do is fish it out and connect it to the brake pin in the rear and to the brake controller under the dash or by the firewall, or do I need to run a new wire?
Since there is trailer sway control incorporated into the factory controller, I don't want to bypass anything that would defeat that feature. Where should I draw my hot lead to my brake controller?
Do I need to reprogram any VAG settings?
Thanks in advance.

I was hoping to post my triumph after this past weekend, after installing a brake controller that would address the “no brake wire to the factory 7-pin connector” problem.

Unfortunately, things are murkier than ever.

The controller I bought was suggested by tech support at etrailer.com. (After I received it I found it for less at Trailer Parts Superstore, and etrailer immediately made good on their best price promise.) I bought a Tekonsha Prodigy RF Brake Controller - Proportional - Trailer Mounted #90250. Pricey, but I wouldn’t have to pay for installation and it wouldn’t void the warranty or blow up the trailer sway control.

This controller mounts on the trailer and senses deceleration and applies brakes according to the radio controlled remote. It does not use the brake wire that is missing from the VW connector. It takes power from the 12V pin on the 7-pin, which has a (black) wire leading to it from the Tiguan harness. The Tekonsha plugs into the car, and the trailer plugs into the Tekonsha. I was excited about this solution.

Guess what! There is no power at the 12V pin! I have turn, brake, marker/running and even backup lights at the 7-pin, but no 12V!!!

I am frustrated. Any ideas? VAG-COM? Missing fuse?
