I looked all over my manual and can't find a location for the vacuum pump. My mechanic told me that I needed a repair kit because my brake pedal is incredibly hard at low speeds. So, I purchased the repair kit and now need to find the pump.
After that, what is the removal like? Anything special?

Thanks in advance. This is my first VW and first diesel.

Does anyone have any information on uninstalling the vacuum pump? I thought it might just be a simple bolt-off, but with the gear looking end, it seems like there's more too it. I looked all the way through my manual again and didn't find anything.

Remove the locking bolt & metal brace, and then pull out the pump... if the pump is
stuck, wiggle it side to side till it budges loose.

Don't worry about the gears.

So which pump do you have? The old style "dual diaphragm" type or the smaller new style?

edit-

Wiggle, not giggle... LOL
