Lubricating clutch pedal

Hi,

My e60 has developed a couple of squeaks; one from the driver side dash and the other from the clutch pedal. They started being intermittent but now have developed to full-on and are ever present when the car is on the move (of course the clutch pedal squeak is only there when I push the pedal).

Does anyone know how to remove the plastic trim beneath the steering column? This is where the clutch "hangs" from; the hard plastic cover that starts from where the carpet trim ends from the floor has 4 screws but undoing the screws doesn't release the plastic trim so that I can access the clutch arm and attempt to lubricate any dry joints. any thoughts please?

The squeak is now getting into my head giving me nightmares ;-)
