Oil pressure light comes on when RPMs reach 2100

I have a 1993 AUDI 90 V6 automatic front wheel drive with AHH engine. After I replaced the timing belt and took a test drive the oil pressure light came on when the engine hit 2100 RPMs. As soon as the transmission shifts downward and the RPM drop below 2100 the light goes off. I have replaced both pressure switches and checked the oil pressure per manual. Oil pressure within range (5.8 bar) on switch B at 2000 RPMs. At operating temperature engine runs smoothly. No knocking noises at idle. Does anyone have any idea what would cause light to come on above 2100 RPM?

The eBahn Manual shows two pressure switches, one is a regular switch (A)... the other a pressure pod (B).

  • Disconnect the wire from the "normal" switch and attach the wire to a clean engine ground.
  • Start & raise the engine speed above 2100rpm (light should not come on)

If light comes on, then you have a wiring (broken) or electrical problem (logic board).
If light does not come on, then either the sensor is no good or you have low oil pressure.

To test the switch:

  • Attach a test light to the switch and hold the light to battery +.
  • Start engine, cold engine light will light-up because of high pressure (thick oil)
  • warm engine, light may or may not light up (oil is thin and might not have enough pressure).
  • if light does not light up, raise engine speed to above 2100... light should light-up before 2100.
  • if light does not light-up before 2100, bad switch or low pressure.

Hope this made sense.

When I changed the timing belt I must have broken the wire to the high pressure switch. Replaced wiring with TEFLON coated wire and solved problem.
