Has anyone had any experience with broken hood release on A4 2002-2008 model? How do you go about releasing and repairing if it is broken at the the lock carrier?

It happens occasionally. To open the hood with a broken cable, the latch must me actuated from below using a long hook tool.

Hi guys...If you experience the hood release handle inside the car to be difficult to pull, it is simply because the hood latch is lacking lubrication. The best thing to do is to spray it with some white lithium grease. However, cover the engine area immediately around the latch so you do not get the grease on the fan belts. Move the hood latch around to spread the lube and you're good to go. If you have successfully broken the hood latch release handle inside the car, it is a bear to get to the cable, but it can be done if you have some intermediate mechanical skills. Good luck.

Thanks for the helpful responses. I got it open. I figured out an easier way than trying to reach up into the tight space between the engine and radiator with a screwdriver and try to pry the lever over to the left side like you told me. Instead, I used a regular pair of pliers and maneuvered the jaws over the lever and the left side of the latch housing. Once in position, all I had to do was give a little squeeze. I found after the hood was open that the cable wasn't broken but the clip that holds it in place had come unclipped.

I'm just wondering if your hood release handle inside the car was broken or not? If not, the way you went about opening the hood was probably the best option since finding a detatched clip. I would suggest for S&G's to lube the latch to alleviate breaking the inside release handle. Many, many merry miles to you!

No, the inside handle wasn't broken and the latch works a lot better after a shot of white grease. Thanks
