This is a 93 GLX VR6, automatic--car has been sitting up against my garage for about year. Battery
removed.

Drove it in.

Got the urge to move it today. Put in a new battery, crank....crank...nothing. Shot some starting fluid in the air box, nothing.

So, no spark. Put a remote starter button on, and cranked. Nothing. Popped the coil wire and cranked no spark...

Now, logically where would I begin to look at this model for no spark condition.
I'm more of a Vanagon Jetta person but I can do some diagnoses.

Fuse box? Computer? Ignition switch? Not sure were to begin.

UPDATE: I pulled the ignition switch, PITA! Replaced it. Still no spark. No pumps. Since I do not have a VR6 Bentley I am now lost. The computer have a fuse? My fuse box fuse for the relay is good.

Now I am thinking ECU. Mine is 0 -261 - 203 - 028
built 11/92

last of the vin is

123096

I found one but it is for VIN's that start with 13's, would it work?

Don't go buying a computer just yet... I have the electronic version (eBahn) of the B3 Bentley Manual, so I can send you some pdf's if you need.

FYI:

The eBahn Manual can be downloaded here: 577MB
http://downloads.bentleypublishers.com/iso/Setup-VW-B3.exe

Pay the 1 time activation fee here: $109.95
http://www.bentleypublishers.com/shopcart.htm?action=add&code=vb3x

Let me check some things in the manual and I'll post back with some suggestions.

I'm opening the computer up to view it, see if I burnt anything up.
It is frustrating

It acts like a fuse to the computer...but there is none as far as I can tell

BURNT--near the front on the circuit board....going to take this to a guy I know to see if
he can evaluate it

problem is this Passat is an early model VR6--
I might have an issue trying to find a replacement

Do you have power on both sides of the ignition coil?

The power stage of the coil is grounded/triggered by the ECM via the middle wire of the 3 wire harness plug.

The ECM relay (#3) supplies power to the ECM, the Injectors, the hall sensor in the distributor, the EGR Frequency valve, the EVAP Purge Valve and the Heated O2 Control Module.

With the key ON, do any of those items receive power at one of their wires?

The ECM grounds the fuel pump relay.

Pin #38 on ECM is ignition power (15)
Pin #54 on ECM is power all the time (30)
Pin #23 on ECM is power from ECM relay (when key is ON)

Today with the key on

I found a panel on the front of the coil, two nuts, 1 and 15---both showed 11.5 volts

removed the computer
here is the picture of the burnt spot

you can see it at the top center

you are looking at the bottom of the board

The Corrado wiring diagram with Distributor VR6 looks very similar and might work as well...

UPDATE:

Bought the correct numbered ECU off Ebay--guy wanted 75--or best offer, I came in at 50 he accepted with 10 spot for shipping.

Am negotiating one off VWVortex but will probably not go for it since the level of protection is not there visa vi PAYPAL

Now, my next hunt for a personal car since my A-2 Jetta Carat is about to puke, is a 90-92 Passat Station Wagon with an automatic 4 cylinder model...in red--little rust if none at all.

(Wishful thinking I know...I know)

Yeah I have 93 glx vr6 Passat. And I have a no spak no fuel issue as well. I've replaced the ignition switch, crankshaft position sensor, every relay in the fuse panel, whether they tested good or not. Still no start!!!
I was reading about a fello who had the same symptoms i have and i finally boiled down to a burnt ecm I believe.I've checked mine with a magnifying glass and I cannot see any evidence of burnt anything.
On here the tech was asking if he had power to the ecm pins and everything checks out with the exception of pin 23 is not key hot. What would cause that?
Man any answers and I would be most appreciated.

In response to the no spark no fuel condition of the vw Passat, If you don't have key hot to the pin 23 on the ecm connector what does that mean?
