We've just released the new Jetta A5 manual (more information here: http://www.bentleypublishers.com/vw/jetta/2005-2010/vw-a5-jetta-repair-manual-2005-2010.html) If you have any questions about the book, post here and we'll try & answer them.

Not a question but more or less a comment. The wire diagrams at end of book are so small that I need a magnifying glass to read them. Text size throughout the manual is just fine.

Wow, that is too bad. The EWD wiring diagram pages are the most used pages in my Audi manual. I hope Bentley comes out with a CD version of the 2010 Jetta with full wiring diagrams.

I would like to purchase the DVD version of the A5 service manual, but it only lists up to 2009
I need information for the 2010 Jetta TDI.
The paper back version covers up to 2010.
Are updates available on line to bring the DVD version of the service manual up to 2010 ?

Hello, Peter

At this time, there isn't an available update to the DVD to bring it up to 2010. Unfortunately, I don't have an exact timetable (or a guess for that matter) as to when that information will be available.

As you noted, the book does cover your car, and as SearchIt mentioned, the VW erWin site has the information electronically.

I have the service manual for 05 thru 10 jetta. On maintenance section 3-70, the page tells how to reset the service reminder. The only thing is that the instrument cluster is just a little different with the hour and min buttons. On the 2010 it only has one button, to toggle from hour to min. The picture shown in the manual has two buttons, which it states you push the min button to reset. Can someone please verify how to reset the service reminder indicator(wrench) on the 2010 jetta.

I have the previous edition of the manual covering the 2005-2009 Jetta. Is there any new content that would be relevant to the 2006 Jetta in the current edition? Is there a discount for owners of registered copies of the previous edition? Thanks.

Hello, Mike & His Jetta

Timing chain replacement is not covered in the printed book. It requires a number of specialized VW tools and is not really considered a DIY procedure. The procedure is covered in the eBahn electronic manual:

I am trying to replace my alternator on my 2009 Jetta TDI 2.0. The manual does not have this particular engine . Does anyone know where I can get the removal and installation process for the Alternator?
If the CD-Rom shows it, I will buy it but I would like to see if it does contain the info that I need.
I would really appreciate your help.

Hello, Juan

I just emailed you some additional information.

We will need to review this procedure in the manual as it applies to the late 2.0L diesel, but I don't have any easy answers at the moment. Hope the information in the email helps.

Current system requirements information for the eBahn DVD can be found here:
Windows 7, Vista and XP Compatibility https://wiki.bentleypublishers.com/x/DQBZAg

Some people prefer to work with the software, others with a printed book. It's a personal choice. The best description of the difference between the two manuals is here:
Difference between Repair Manual and a Service Manual? https://wiki.bentleypublishers.com/x/HIA

I checked, and it's unclear as to whether the eBahn manual actually covers alternator removal for this engine with any more detail than the book does. As I said, we're going to need to take a look at that procedure on our end.

Just a brief note to say the CD does work under Windows 7 by installing the free XP Mode download from Microsoft - which actually installs XP to run under Win7. However, it won't work on the Home version of Win7 - so you may need to upgrade first (which is easy).
I can't fault Bentley for needing to use XP mode, because the code changes needed to run under native Win7 can be extensive. Several industrial applications I use also require XP mode, as the changes needed can overwhelm a small software group. My group had to choose between adding needed features or trying to keep up with Microsoft's changes to Windows. Microsoft seems to assume that "real" software development is only done by large teams at big companies.
But don't complain: Windows 8 compatibility will be much harder!

I just bought a 2012 TDI sportwagen and want to buy the service manual.
Will there be an update to the 2010 service manual with 2012 specific information?
I don't expect todo any work on this car for at least a year.
Should I wait and buy the next service manual that comes out?

Go to: https://erwin.vw.com/erwin/showHome.do and create a free user account.

Go to: https://erwin.vw.com/erwin/showSearch.do and click on the Vehicle Identification Number

Enter your vehicle VIN #

Search for anything that you like, engine, transmission, chassis , electrical, Self Study Programs

You will need to buy a 1 day subscription ($35) to be able to download & view items.

Last September I downloaded 8GB of info/manuals (all platforms), in PDF format.

It helps if you have fast internet connection & little sleep... and an open weekend! :-)

But for $35 and all PDFs on my android tablet where ever I go, priceless!

Does this manual cover removal of the dashboard? I had my Sirius Satelite box fry out and it ended up surging through the whole car and i'm stuck trying to remove the dash. If not please point me in the correct direction for this info on your site. I have a MKV 2008 Jetta. Which I have already purchased this book, I'm just waiting for its arrival.

@ Crawford
The A5 platform service manual does not cover the 2012 SportWagen. We simply aren't aware of what differences there are between that car (A6 platform SportWagen) and the A5 models. Unfortunately, I don't have any date of availability to share for a manual. As with all new manuals, there will be an announcement on our website shorty prior to publication. FKH161 is correct - the information is available through Volkswagen's erWin subscription site at the link he posted.

@Quest_
Full dashboard removal is not included in the printed manual. However, it is included in the eBahn DVD-Rom manual:
