can anyone help me? im doing a huge project on this 1988 bmw 528 and something is draining my battery ive checked all the fuses individually ive checked my alternator im doing my electrical but i know nothing about electrical ive jus been doing the obviouis unplugging and plugging everything the battery light stays on when my car is off but when its on sometimes it draINS and sometimes my alternator gives the charge back but not all the time some HELPP!!

That's a tough one to diagnose over the web. First hook and ammeter to the battery and measure the draw. Then pull one fuse at a time and look for the draw to drop off. Could be your cluster. the SI board has been know to cause weird problems. You may be over your head on this and have to call on an expert. You may be surprised how quickly some well versed with your model can find the problem. I would also do some learning about electrics. Likely to be some great resources on the web.

if the battery light is on while the car is off, you need an alternator. 1 of the diodes is passing voltage both ways, which diodes are not supposed to do. good luck, chuck.
