I have replaced the steering pump w a rebuilt and after doing all the usual bleeding prep etc etc, still cannot get rid of a huge pump noise
that sounds as if the pump is starving for oil. Steering assist seeems to work fine but this noise is so loud. Using Pentosin 11S.
No leaks, small foamy bubbles in the reservoir which I leave to coalesce an pop out-then when I restart the engine the noise again.
Any suggestions out there please?

The bentley manual states that "Pumps from service parts inventory do not contain fluid. They must be filled with hydraulic fluid, G 002 000 before installation and turned by hand, otherwise pump noise or damage can result in initial operation."

Steps for installation: 1.Fill PS pump w hyd fluid 2.Fill the pump w fluid thru the suction pipe 3.Turn pump hub by hand until oil runs out the pressure side. 4.Then install the pump on its bracket 5 Then connect low pressure intake hose and pressure side hose w new crush washers for banjo bolt.

Did u work the pump w oil before running it, or did u install it dry?

Appreciate the feedback--did everything by the book. Have E-Bahn on my screen and a manual. Perhaps this rebuilt
pump was not as good as needed.
Started car this am and pump now has a "rod knock" noise coming from the it--disconnected the belt to isolate
the noise. Will get pump exchanged and try again.
Thanks.

Assuming new pump is ok,
place vehicle on even surface and have it running, turn the steering wheel left and right several times till steering wheel lock, if the noise does not go away replace power steering fluid container with integrated P/S fluid filter. If this procedure does not help report back.

Thanks. Am gone for a week. Have ordered a new rebuilt exchange for when I get back in town.
I will slowly go thru the procedure again and see if I have any luck. Where does one get a
reservoir/filter for this 2000 Jetta and will the filter slow down what I think is ingesting fluid
that has minute air particles in it?
