Climatron in '99 MV stopped working....

The temp. control unit, fan controls, temp. controls or the "Climatron" as it is labeled has stopped working in my '99 MV. It worked like a champ, blew cold and hot when needed and one day no LED indicator. After a few miles of driving it sprang to life. Yesterday it went out again and has not corrected. I checked the fuses and they are all good. Is there another cuprit or do the units go and how involved or $$$ is the repair.
Thanks for any help.

I'd have to check the wiring diagram, but doesn't it get power from the load
reduction relay? Could be a bad relay or ignition switch... probably ignition
switch. When the Climatronic does not work, do the windshield wipers
work? If not, then either the load reduction relay or ignition switch is
no good.

Not sure if they play the same...but in my 03 a wire (looking at the engine bay from the bumper) top left had been eatin by vermin and caused the LCD to flicker. put it back together and all good. My guess was that this was wire from the outside temp control, which when cut shut the whole deal down.
In my case it was two wires with corrugated plastic wrap in the top left corner of the bay...best of luck.

The wipers work. Knock on wood and don't jinx anything....everything else, not related to the climate control works. Even the rear defrost and cigarette lighter.
I will check the wires from engine compartment. Upper left would be near/around the air intake. Yes? I did remove the air filter a few weeks ago. Maybe I knocked something loose.
Thanks.

One more question regarding the ignition switch...The car starts no problem. It has appropriate power at the two stops before turning over. Could the van start and the alrarms and buzzers work at the accesory key turn if the ignition switch was/is bad?
Thanks.

If the ignition switch is faulty (a common malady on the EV), some things function while others do not. In my case, the engine started but the headlights would not, nor would the ventilation system.

Is replacing the ignition switch difficult? (Relative to changing a distributor cap and rotor assembly.) What should I be careful to avoid and the easiest way to approach it? ( I want to remove as few screws as possible.)
Thanks.

Thanks for the instructions. I will get myself a new switch and replace it and see if that works. Thanks again.

Update....The system came back to life as I was on my way to pick up the new switch. I was going to forgo getting the new switch but decided to go pick up the new switch that I had called ahead and asked them to hold for me. When I arrived, there was no switch, computer had it in inventory but could not be found on the shelf. Frustrated and running out of time I left with out the switch. System has worked for about a week now. Strange but true. It has a mind of its own. Will still try and get switch replaced.
Thanks.
