I have a 91 manual. My shifter is no longer connected to whatever it connects to. The knob/handle that is supposed to shift from gear to gear is loose and wont stay in any gear, it seems to be disconnected. How to fix this problem??? I need this fixed asap! Please help! Took cover off, went under the car trying to get to it, it seems to be in some sort or box thats welded to my car. Help!

Check the two shifter cables on top of the transmission.

The cables usually break either at the end where they connect
at the transmission... or under the shifter boot inside
the vehicle.

It's been a while since I had replaced one... it won't be a
quick fix to replace the cable.

See attached image (taken from Bentley CD).

Not sure if there is room from the top to spot weld the
cable ends together (as a quick band-aid fix)... could also
be a fire hazard to try and spot weld together!

Do a google search on "shifter cables/conversions" to get
an idea of how things are mounted.
