Hi All,

I have a 2001 33oci that had a cracked expansion tank. I changed the tank and have had overheating problems ever since. I have done every 'trick' to try and remove any air pocket that may have been in the system i.e. jacking up front end about 3-4ft off ground and revving engine while adding coolant, used air evac system to create vacum in system and then siphen coolant back into system. the car will idle fine for about 20 minutes and then start to overheat. if i take the car for a drive i cant even get a half mile before needle goes beyond 12 o'clock position and starts climbing toward red. i replace water pump about a year and a half ago and recently just changed the thermostat i bought from a bmw dealer. i am going to check the water pump tonight to make sure it is ok. had a friend check the raditor and said there was cold spots on radiator. the lower radiator hose does not seem to heat up when engine idiling. PLEASE HELP!! RUNNING OUT OF OPTIONS. THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Was the car overheating or leaking coolant before expansion tank replacement? is the overflow hose plugged up if equipped? does the fan coming on - viscous fan? Check the water pump impeller. If all of this ok need to check for combustion leak into cooling system. Any good part store should have block tester fluid and you can do this test yourself. Good luck.

P.S.
I have not noticed, guess the pump was the issue...
