Hello All,

Well I just bought a 99 A6 with 86k miles but it has a couple of problems. I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction.
1. Auto Transmission problem- Transmission works fine but when I try to use the manual shifter it won’t work, it stays in drive.

2. OBD II wont connect to computer- It says communication failure on OBD II display and it was only able to connect to the transmission. The electric dude plugged another thing to the car and read a code P0442
The engine and transmission responded excellent went I took it out for a drive with the exception of those two problems.

I really appreciate it if someone can point me in the right direction.

I believe there are magnets on the shifter that do the Tip shifting. They may have come off. Could also be related to your ODBII issue.
Code p0442 looks to be the evap system:
