My '94 525I's radio went completely out, a little smell and phooey, caput, zippo everything is gone. Theft light blinks but really fast. Code was entered but nothing. Is the audio completely shot? Should I have it checked while in the car or can I take it out and have it checked that way. Thanks any help would be most appreciated!! MN NIce

Likely shot. I'd just buy a used unit. Make sure you get the code, although not too hard to get code from dealer. At least it wasn't a few years back.

The flaps on front left and right conceal the scews that move the locking tabs in and out. Be careful, they are 5-point internal hex and soft brass. I've used a small torx before and that worked well.

If you need a used radio I have one. It's a factory unit out of a 1991 525i, however it is AM, FM, Cassette, no CD player, but if you have a CD exchanger it should work for you.

The radio had been taken out and placed into the trunk when I bought the car. I'm not sure if I could, or how to go about getting a code which I do not have. This may be more trouble than its worth, but if you are still interested in the unit I'll be more than fair.

Get the radio chassis no. and call your dealer parts guy. They should help you.
