(Battery checks out fine)

In order for my remote to work I have to be within a couple feet of the car with it pointed at the receiver in the rear view mirror.

Is this a common problem and is there a remedy to boosting the signal? (I assume it is IR not a radio signal)

I had read on a W210 thread that a person cleaned the contacts in his rear view mirror, that's something I may try though not sure of the similarities between models
