93 VR6 4dr, A/T
Passat...where to start? After owning this car for 5yrs and repair bills varying $500min to $1200.00(headgasket). I wish I would've logged on years ago. After reading your post and constantly saying *%&# my car is doing the samething. So upon years of adding coolant y'all told me to check the thermostat housing or crackpipe(LOL). Boom!! went to junk yard tore that car up fixed mines, no more low coolant light every 2months. Seeing how easy that was I fixed the leak on my 97 passat vr6. Both housings had the same dmg, the thin inner gasket liner were broken sucking the rubber gasket inward. Anyhow that excited me so I decided to clean up the engine bay real good ( I recommend this be done first ). After taping up loose wires, diconnecting and cleaning all electrical (male and female) connectors. That solved half my probs. It would not go to first gear on it's own at stop lights, I had to shift thru each gear till I got to third, then it depended on how fast I was going if I could go to fourth, because if my speed was not over 35-40mph it would buck. Also it would lose power and cut off while driving. Not anymore after that TLC she back punchy (I love it). Now with power and shifting back normal I just ordered a tranny mount, fuel filter, and serpentine belt all for $57.00(wow)free shipping too! I'll continue to search but still may need help.
Any comments or advice is heavily appreciated.

I think your VR6 has an AIR FLOW SENSOR. This being true, check the ducting thoroughly for leakage. You may want to use as vacuum testor. Operation S/B smooth @ about 17lbs.(of vacuum). A bad motor mount in my Audi made the engine go nuts (bucking bronco) as the engine moved about opening the LEAKY ducting to the AIR FLOW SENSOR WHICH LIED TO THE FUEL SCHEDULING and ECM.
Hopefully its not your valve body in the trans, that's what I'm waiting to replace on my '91 B3, no shift at all.
GOOD LUCK W'DAT !!

Hey Hammer checked all ducting as best i could found cracked crankcase dampener(thats what the dealer called it 55 bucks) located on back of intake. Also found tranny mount gone, but looks too hard for me to tackle. But guess what..... all of a sudden after all that tlc something is draining the battery, as well as tranny won't shift by its self. good power but 4th doesn't engage. I have to shift manually and limit my speed to 45mph in 3rd, I've basically stripped the inside out to expose the wiring, found a missing relay behind console cover infront of gear shift. There's accutally a wire in the relay housing connecting to slots. And my local dealer says the car is so old they don't have the test equipment anymore (wow). HELP!!!!!!

Update...Replaced the dampener with new one, engine idles and accelerates lovely, oh yeah gas mileage improved greatly. I also removed the knee bar and traced all wires, found a couple of heated wires so I spliced them out. Cleaned corrosion of main ground mounted under dash on driver side. Had codes removed as well, and so far so good. Got lucky and found a good donor car at local salvage yard, 5/93 green vr6 5spd, now i can fix my rear pass window. My driverside auto seatbelt is stuck, replaced with one from green car but no results must be electrical, I ordered the wiring manual but kinda hard to narrow which model I have The Manual Says ... From Jan 93 or Up to Jan 93.. Ok my prod date is 1/93 ????? If someone has this manual please help me to understand a little.
Also have to tackle abs light as well. Thanks for any replies.
