I have a 2002 ALMS TT Quattro (manual 6-speed) with 81k miles. It has been regularly serviced, never had any issues.
One day I drove home after work - everything was working fine. About an hour later, I started my car but had no 1st or second gear. There was never any grinding or screaming from the tranny - it just wouldn't engage 1st or 2nd. Reverse & 3rd-6th still work fine, but I can't get 1st or 2nd. I bought the manual, adjusted the linkage, but no change. I also tried to move the shift mechanism at the transmission end by hand - no luck. I've seen this problem a couple times on other forums/blogs, but I've never seen any definative causes or solutions. Can someone please help?
Did you find out what the problem was for your shifting? I just ran into the same problem today. The only diffrence is my 2002 Audi TT ALMS will not go into 1st, 2nd, or reverse. It initialy did go into reverse then stopped. Have heard from many could be a linkage problem.
