Center Bearing Bracket

Hello, have anyone replace the center bearing bracket? I did go as far as taking down the transmission carrier, this by the way is just a metal plate that holds the bearing bracket. Now looking at the repair manual, I refuse to believe that you have to take down the entire driveshaft or replace it for that matter just to fix this issue. Any suggestion or guidance will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Alfonso, what is the engine size, 6 or 8 cyl?, and i guess we talking here about prop. shaft. If so, unfortunately center prop. shaft bearing and the bracket is part of the whole assembly and is not sold separately.
Good luck.

The support bearing seems to be a common failure issue. It hasn't happened to me yet, but many at VWVortex complain. The bearing itself doesn't seem to fail, but the rubber mounting around it goes bad. The only fix from VW is to replace the entire driveshaft. (The driveshaft has been through a few revisions since introduced, so maybe it has been improved.)
The VW replacement includes all parts, even the rubber flex joint, and it isn't hard to change. Some online VW dealers have it a a pretty good discount, such as:

Thank you, your answer confirm my concern. Now about replacing the driveshaft. Is this something you can do in your driveway or are we talking special tools and lift etc.

Hi Alfonso, yes, repair can be done on your drive way, but only the Touareg with 6 cyl. engine, 8 cyl. engine required a lift, no special tool required, wrenches, torx, allen etc. Good luck.
