removing tranny output flange nut

Cannot get the nut from the output flange.
I already put PB blaster on it but it will not budge.
Do I need to rent an impact wrench? Any suggestions?

How are you holding the flange? Takes lots of force with the flange properly held. See attachment.

Tks for reply.
I am holding the flange with a wrench jammed against the under carriage , not that cool looking tool in picture.
I have the 30 mm socket . Nut still does not budge.
I just rented an electric impact wrench. Hope it will work.
How much does that flange holding tool cost?

No idea on price, likely over $100 though. I included it as an example, perhaps you could rig something equivalent? A long pipe on your breaker bar will help with leverage. Be careful is the car is on the lift.

Will try to rig something similar to that neat looking tool.
Question;Is the vibration damper on the drive shaft really necessary? Need to remove it to replace broken stud on output flange. According to service manual, not all BMW have one. Can I leave if off?

Do you mean the rubber donut (aka guibo)? Yes you do need it. On cars without one, the vibration absorption was dealt with some, such as with a dual mass flywheel for example. If the manufacturer put one in, best to put it back in.

Tranny Flange nut is likely on with loctite. Try adding some heat with a propane blow torch to free it up.
The rubber guibo acts as a U-joint. It is a flexible coupling that connects the drive shaft to the tranny output flange.

Some BMW's, mine is a 1986 325E , did come with an extra vibration damper in addition to the guibo. It goes around the guibo and is metal with drilled holes to balance it. It just looks like the vibration damper on an engine. Apparently very few BMW's had one. It is briefly mentioned in the bentley manual with a half *** drawing(ref page 11 in drive shaft section, fig 4-6).
The impact wrench did not loosen the center flange nut. Guess I have to rig up a proper flange holding tool and maybe apply some heat to the center bolt as bearing01 suggested.

The metal bowl surrounding the guibo is a secondary balancer. You can get by without it. I haven't removed mine, but with the tranny output flange off you can remove this bowl. You may have to knock or press it from the flange. Then would be a good time to press out the guibo mounting studs and instead use bolts. Makes removal / install easier.

Great, one of the studs is already ruined and it looks like BMW Germany is the only place, I could possibly find a replacement. On the other hand bolts are easy to obtain within the USA. So that secondary balancer will be history on my car soon and will use bolts instead of studs on the output flange. Am replacing the guibo too.
Besides that secondary balancer also made it difficult to remove other parts in the vicinity.
Tks again. Was beginning to think I had the only BMW with that pain in the neck secondary balancer.

Just a thank for your guys help.
Rigged up a tool with help of local machine shop(cost 30 bucks) and got the nut off. You were not kidding that you need a special tool for holding that flange properly. Did not even need heat on nut.

I hate the hijack the thread, but I have a feeling you know the answer to my question.
How do you remove the 6 opposing nuts/bolts with the secondary balancer (Drum, metal flange, bowl, etc) in the way? I can barely see the nuts/bolts on the transmission side, let alone get a wrench on them.
The drive shaft side I can see with ease, and that is easy to get a socket on, but without a wrench on the opposite side, I'm afraid all I'm going to do is loosen the nuts, but be unable to both remove them, or to tighten them back up. Thoughts or Ideas?
