2001 Allroad - Air Suspension Problem

A little help please... My suspension pump stopped functioning. When I tried to adjust using the button on the dash, the lights would just blink for a while and then "give up"-----the pump made no noise. Vag-com showed an error related to temperature of the pump.
I replaced the pump. Still no worky. Is there a relay somewhere, or should I go right to replacing the "valve block" aka Solenoid Valve?

Thoughts?

Using your Vag, what are the readings that are being reported to the BCM as far as height? (Mode) And what was the error?"

Hi BD,
First off, any trouble codes related with the pump temperature sensor means that air suspension pump has been running to long and has been turned off by control module. Most of the time cause would be an air leak in the air suspension system. You said that new air pump has been replaced, and my question is. After air suspension pump replacement have you heard new pump running at all and have your vehicle reached desired hight. If not or your vehicle is still seating flat, then
we talking about faulty control module, located inside the trunk.
Note:
Before proceeding to replace any of the air suspension parts check all the fuses again. Do not replace valve block, I have not seen one bad yet.

Thanks for your responses. I have been asking about this in so many places, I forgot where to check back!

Since my original post, I've replaced the pump, valve-block, and tonight---the ECM (4Z7...553H). Same thing. Car is completely "deflated" because I replaced the valve-block and it didn't pump back up.

I turn the key on or start, the yellow suspension warning light flashes, the green lights flash like it's trying raise up, but the pump doesn't start. Finally, the yellow warning light in the instrument panel stays on and the one green light keeps flashing.
CODES:
--------------------------------------
VAG-COM Version: Release 409.1-S

Control Module Part Number: 4Z7 907 553 HG
Component and/or Version: - 2C1A1 D053
Software Coding: 25500
Work Shop Code: WSC 09999
1 Fault Found:
01400 - Suspension Level Control
........11-00 - Control Limit Not Reached
-----------------------------------------
Checked: Relay under dash, fuse in black box under hood at firewall, all four sensor connections at corners, replaced pump, valve-block, and ECM.

What else? Do I need to reset something? HELP!

Thanks!

Hi Brent,
Code new control module if need, and try to activate air
pump if the scan tool is capable of, see what's happened.

I had the same problem.

And found that it was not the compressor. Attached to the compressor, there are an temperature sensor. All I had to do, was to unplug this sensor, and everything works ok. The problem is that Audi do not sell this sensor separate. It's part of the compressor assembly. I ended up just leaving the sensor unplugged.

And if somebody find a place where the sensor is sold separately, I would be glad to hear about it.

Front suspension (both sides) is sometimes down. But when it is up and switched off, holds air for days.
Eliminated front air bag leak by manually inflating, car stays up.

Ruled out compressor (disconnected compressor line from valve block and hooked up to compressed air: only rear comes up).

Connected pressure gauge to valve block: front right: no pressure, rear right: 40 or so psi.

Suspect: valve block
a) electro mechancial: stuck (closed) front valve/valves, valve actuator for front not working
b) electrical: no signal (either from ECU (due to bad front height sensor input, or bad connectors/wires)

My questions:
  • what is the part number and search term for the valve block?
  • how can I further narrow down the problem (mechanical or electrical; valve block itself or wires/signal)?

Someone suggested to put some compressor oil into the compressor intake

also: I have tried to get the valve block out, but can't figure out how to get it off the combined compressor/block bracket. The bolts (4 or so) that seem to hold the block don't have 'heads'.

After much more troubleshooting:
  • car stays up in level 3 and 4
  • car drops like a rock in level 2 and 1. Compressor cannot keep up, trips out due to overheat.

This explains why my prior leak test did NOT show a leak (inflated on car and on bench to 'highest level'.

It also explains why the car stays up for some time, but then drops. It is caused by the automatic level drop when exceeding a certain speed (from selected level 3 (fine) to level 2 when getting above 50 mph or so).

Leaks does not seem to be a pinhole, but rather O ring unseats in lower levels.

I will try if a 'air bag repair kit' (bunch of O rings) will fix the leak.

I can rule out a leak upstream of the air bags; it would also show up in higher levels.

The word out there is that a leak in ONE bag will drop both sides. I raised car to level 3 (holds air). Engaged 'jack mode' (pressing up and down button for 5 sec), turn ignition off and removed key
Then took air line off front right bag. Side dropped immediately (no surprise). Front left and rear stayed up (over night).

Then disengaged 'jack mode' (again press and hold up and down button). Front left started to drop right away, compressor kicking in soon after (to try to raise front right).

Ergo: a leaking one side will drop both side.

To determine which side is leaking: raise car and engage 'jack mode'. Only the bad side should drop (unless both sides have leak).

I'm having this same problem and after searching around, this thread best explains my problem.

The level indicator stay's on though & my pump is not coming on. VAG Com'd it & got the same error as above.

Everything suspension wise is a year old w/ upgraded Arnott bags & shocks. Worked fine the day before. No weird noises from the pump. Actually before this happened the pump ran the same as the day i got it. As i said, everything was replaced.

My question is, where is the relay and/or fuse for the system? Could this be the problem? How can i activate the pump via VAG com? Everything i try to do, it keeps giving me error code. Tried to 402 mod it to try and get the pump to activate. Right now, i'm stumped. Thanks.

Hey everyone,

See lots of similar problems, but nothing the same so here tis:

Quattro Allroad wagon with airbag suspension problems. Front drivers side totally deflated, which actually did not drop both sides, although the drivers side rear sags just a little (maybe due to extra strain from the front?). Can't seem to hear whether compressor is running or not. Maybe cause I'm not sure exactly where the compressor is?... :) So I'm sure this would probably a no-brainer, bad airbag/o-ring problem, but in conjunction with this, my dash indicator lights no longer light up at all. But, the suspension warning light on the instrument cluster is on.

I will keep the large number of probs with this car down to these questions, as there are many more and don't want to overload the forum... I would really like to love this car, but it sure doesn't make it easy.

So... any guesses?

1fastwagon,
I have the same symptoms. What was your eventual solution?

atokle,
I'm going to try your "fix". Were you able to locate a new temp sensor? or did you eventually replace your entire pump?

I've attached an image of the pump temp sensor for other's edification.

I'll report back with my findings.

I have an '03 Allroad...SAME exact issue. What was the resolution on this one?
