You need to make sure the coolant is circulating. Do you have heat in the passenger compartment? If not, you likely have trapped air and the coolant is not circulating. In tough situations I have used a pressure tester to force the coolant through. Apply pressure to the system with the bleed open and the engine running. This can be done by most repair professionals at the reasonable cost, assuming you can drive the car to someone.

Hi charlie...still having a problem with overheating. Will the car overheat if the heater valve doesn't open? I know it does stick...have tapped on it and got heat after.
I've changed the water pump, thermostat, clutch fan and radiator....it's better but not fixed yet....any other ideas?

You should have the system pressure tested. This will tell you a lot. Car will not o.h. if the heater valve does not open. Do you have heat and it still over heats? Does it use/burn coolant. It is driveable? Suspect the head gasket

Thanks I solved the problem...I either read it here or on some other website.....but I filled the exspansion tank and took out the bleeder screw on it and got all the air out and so far the gauge hasn't moved past the middle....I think that was my problem in the first place...ooops $900 later
