1987 BMW 535i wont fire

I have a 1987 BMW 535i and it just stopped while I was driving and now I can't get it to start. I know it is getting fire to the coil but not to the plugs. I have replaced the coil and distrubitor cap and button but it still will not start. I have checked fuses. Do you have any other suggestions. Thanks

Are the plugs wet with fuel, can you smell fuel?

Yes i smell gas but I don't have spark to the plugs.

if you have the coil sparking and the coil wire is sparking to the cap and no spark to the plugs:
1 the cap and rotor are junk
2 the cam, which has the rotor on the end of it, isn't turning

yesterday i started the car when i pulled the cover off the first relay (computer relay) and pushed the points togather. I got a new relay and it is now closing on its own but now won't start. I smell gas but no spark.

Possibly a loose connection. Has the battery been changed lately? Check the smaller wire at the battery +. Look carefully at all connectors, including position sensor.
