I have a 2001 325Ci M54 with over 150,000miles. Around 2 months ago the power steering started groaning and moaning during idle speed turns. Then it simply stopped working. The tank/res. is full and there aren't any leaks where the tie rod boots are. The pump still spins with the belt system, unlike other cars I've had the pump go out on where the pump seized.

I have been driving the car with very tough steering, considerably tougher than my 65 Mustang with manual steering. I simply have not had the time to purchase a new pump and replace it.

Please let me know it you all think this is a pump issue and not something weird wrong with my rack or otherwise.

Thanks
David

('05 BMW 325ci with 145,000) My Power Steer pump shaft broke without any warning. I still had plenty of fluid and no leaks. When I crawled under the car and grabbed the PSP pulley I could move it front to back about 3/8". When I removed the belt the shaft could be pulled out of the PSP body.
