I finally found an 8mm 12-point Allen Wrench for the fuel filter replacement!!!
If you're like me, you've wondered what they were thinking when they designed the fuel filter placement and bracket.
I was going to do the fuel filter according to the instructions posted on AudiWorld and realized what a pain that filter is to change...even with the great instructions provided by Mike Staley (http://www.audiworld.com/tech/eng49.shtml)
I thought to myself, "There has to be an easier way!"
It seemed to me that a 12-point Allen wrench would make the fuel filter change a lot easier, so I searched high and low until I finally found a German manufacturer who makes them.
I ordered a box of them direct from germany, tried one, and it worked great! On my B5 S4, it fits into the fuel filter bracket bolt and just barely touches the body...which actually helped it stay in place as I had to press hard to get that bolt to break loose after 126k miles (I know, I should have changed it earlier). The best part was that I didn't have to drop my tank or anything, which was awesome!!!
So...I have a bunch of these, gave some to friends, and posted the rest of them on EBay for anyone in this forum who wants one.
I hope these tools will help you spend more time driving your Audi, instead of working on it.
- P.S. I also ordered ten 12-point Allen wrench sets (m5 thru M16) for people like me who hate project delays just because I'm missing a stupid tool. I kept a set for myself, gave a few to friends, and now there are 7 sets left for our Audi community. I know the 10mm fits the half-shaft inner CV bolts, and I've read that the 16mm works for a VW oil plug.
