The code only resets if it passes all internal tests, and you probably still have the EVAP system problem. Re-scan for codes, and if you have the code again you must fix the problem before readiness can be set.

Tom thanks for the reply. I rescaned for codes and passed
then checked I/M monitors and 4 of the readiness codes not ready EVAP,O2,CATALYST,SECONDARY AIR I have been driving car around for 5 days 60 miles each day. I have seen other posts that say drive at least 100 miles or at least 1 hour.also seen some post for crazy drive cycle times and speeds.I would like to find a specified drive cycle to reset readiness codes for b4 passat.maybe something in bentley manual?

According to the Bently CD, readiness can be set within a 45min
period when following a "drive cycle" from when the engine is
cold.

Some of the vehicle speeds & engine rpms are very specific, so
if you don't happen to meet those parameters... the ECM will
not check/set readiness of specific systems.

You can download & install the B4 CD from here:

EXE: http://downloads.bentleypublishers.com/iso/Setup-VW-B4.exe

ISO: http://downloads.bentleypublishers.com/iso/VW%20B4.iso

Pay a 1 time activation fee (can be installed on 2 computers) here:
http://www.bentleypublishers.com/shopcart.htm?action=add&code=vb4x

I can't guarantee that this will help you 100%... but for $89.95
it's a "tool" worth having if you plan on working on your car
in the future!
