94 urS4 power window issue

My 94 urS4 is having an issue with the power windows which I haven't been able to track down.
The Moon roof and driver's window function normally. The remaining three windows all have the same shared symptoms. Individually each can go up and down. But, when one is raised, the other two slowly lower. If I try to raise two together, they do not move, and the third lowers quickly. Try to raise all three, and nothing moves. All lower normally alone or together.
I've monitored the wires at the switches, and see that as I raise one window, the voltage at the 'down' terminal of the other switches is raised from ground to a low level, 2-3 volts. I initially believed this was related to the power window relay located in the driver's kick panel. I've replaced this with no change. Has anyone else encountered this issue, or have an idea? I have a control module for these windows beyond the relay, but I assume there is one based on the symptoms of this issue. Does anybody know where this is located?

Thanks

Hi, I know this is a shot in the dark, but did you ever figure this out? I have the identical issue on my 94 s4, and I am starting to pull my hair out!

Are you having any central locking issues as well?
On my now departed 1992 100 Quattro, the module under the kick panel cover had to be taken out to keep the faulty central locking module next to the battery under the back seat from running the battery down. I could put it in when I was driving but had to take it out otherwise. If you trace the wires on the wiring diagram, you may find where this all intersects. If you hear clicking under the rear seat it may be an indicator that this is happening. This was a source of much frustration for me and lead to my switch to another German make starting with a B.

The central locking seems to work fine, and the battery seems not to drain down. I wonder if the central locking module has any control over the windows..

The central locking module contols the windows, in the sense that you can close all of the windows by holding the door lock in the 'lock' position with the key. It was very common symptom (my 93 100CS included) for the locking module, under the rear seat, to spontaneously close the windows of its own accord, even if the windows were already closed. The most obvious symptom of this issue is that in the morning the battery would be dead, because the windows were 'closing' all night long. To eliminate this as the culprit, remove the rear seat and disconnect the wire harnesses from the lock pump/controller. Then see if your windows still behave oddly. If so, you may be able to get a replacement lock module on eBay.

In your case, I'd also look at the common grounding point near the driver's left ankle. My window control relay was chattering a lot until I cleaned up that grounding lug and all of the wires that connect to it.

Lastly, check the wire harnesses that pass between the body and each door at the door hinge, inside the rubber boot. It's common for those wires to break, or for their insulation to become chafed and therefore short against an adjacent wire or against the door or chassis component. Also check the wire harnesses going to the driver's door window switch cluster for signs of damage.
