I just last year installed a short shift kit in my 2000 mod boxster and thier is no srew at all holding the shiftknob down ,thier is a plastic trimpiece underneath the leather of your shiftknob just lightly pry upward with a interior prybar(red flat plastis bar),you can buy one from the craftsman counter at sears,it made by liesle company and will probly cost about $13.00.Once you do this then pull up on shiftknob and it will come off.make sure you put the trim piece back as you found it all fits together in one piece snaps back inplace.
