I see what appear to be little access panels/things on cars' bumpers more and more, be it front lense jets, or rear "radar", etc., but on the BMW 750 I was following tonight its right rear 1" square access panel (it turns out) was off and inside was a silver post of some sort. After a search online I got nothin'. In today's world it could be for anything! (on my '66 Toronado there was an air valve for the rear shocks next to the fuel filler behind the spring loaded license plate)

Wondering if someone can clarify my mystery as to what I saw behind that little panel on the back of a 750. THANKS!
Charlie

Is it a threaded connection? likely to where the tow hook screws in. Tow hook should be in your tool kit in the trunk lid or with the spare tire. Take a look at www.realoem.com for more clarity?

Charlie! exactly! VERY helpful, thank you for that website! I had searched for any BMW "parts" website and found nothing, that site was perfect.

Within a few minutes there it was... http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=GX81&mospid=50041&btnr=51_5880&hg=51&fg=15 showing, as you described, "Flap, Towing Eye" item 02.

Now it brings up the rhetorical question, why is THAT location so important for a detachable towing eye, that BMW needs to have a panel or "flap" (which from what I saw can be removed and lost!) right at that prime and vulnerable location? Must be some "euro" thing.

Anyway, Thanks Charlie, you answered my mystery! Kevin

Must be a Euro thing, but they've been doing the bumper cover piece forever (at least since '89, lol).

How do you like your E65? What year and model?
