I am currently having problems with a 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera. The engine family ID FPR193V5FC 07, engine is a 193 cubic inch, air cooled non turbo 6. The road assistance guy replaced the distributor cap and rotor, but incorrectly connected up the spark plug wires and the car did not start. I changed spark plugs and connected the wires on the distributor cap in the correct firing order of 1-6-2-4-3-5. The rotor turns clockwise. The engine now starts and runs but backfire. Could anybody tell me as to the reason why it now backfires and how I could fix this problem? Thanks a lot!

first off..the idiot that took that cap off may have repositioned it in the wrong place...and you set fire order in the wrong place...if the timing is off( accidently moving a loose distributor shaft) you have no reference....you need to check timing to spec and then you need to be absoutely sure the rotor and distributor are locked down and that the firing order is absolutely correct!...firing order first....get the beast running and idling...plug vacume lines to the distributor hall unit if it is called for....move the distributor till it starts ...then time it
