Hey guys, I am having an intermittent problem with my 2002 passat 1.8t. It will start misfiring and then clear up. Sometimes it won't start on the first try, but then it will start on the second try. It appears to have a faulty engine speed sensor. My question is, have any of you seen a faulty coil pack issue or oil sludge issue cause this problem? Any ideas?

3 Faults Found:

16395 - Bank 1: Camshaft A (Intake): Retard Setpoint not Reached (Over-Advanced)
P0011 - 002 - Lower Limit Exceeded - Intermittent

16705 - Engine Speed Sensor (G28): Implausible Signal
P0321 - 008 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent

16706 - Engine Speed Sensor (G28): No Signal
P0322 - 004 - No Signal/Communication - Intermittent

I haven't seen sludge or a bad module cause the sensor code.

The RPM Sensor fixed the problem. It is the sensor located behind the oil filter.

The crank sensor is behind the oil filter...how did you access the sensor...I have found it very hard to reach.

Are you really that naive? Do you really think "you've fixed the problem"?
Dont kid yourself. Thats just a temporary fix, believe that. But since you
Think youve fixed it, I'll let you find out on your own. Buckle up hunny,
Youre in for bumpy ride.

Thank you for visiting the Bentley technical forums, however I have to advise you that this is not the sort of response we are looking for. We ask for meaningful feedback that can help someone diagnose a problem or issue with their vehicle. I also notice this was your first post ever, we ask that you not continue to post responses in this manner in the future. I would also like to point out that the thread you responded to was two and a half years old.
