Hi Jon,

Thanks for pitching in. There no substitute for a seasoned tech, especially given the complexity of the current lineup. I really appreciate your openness and willingness to help. I'm sure you will add a new and improved dimension to our forum.

Thanks again,

Hi,
Maybe you could help me with a problem I am having with my 1994 318is coupe. The temp gauge is inconsistent ie. it can register the correct temp and then drop back off the scale within a short length of time. Do you think a faulty sender would create such a problem? In addition to this when the gauge isn't working the Co level goes sky high.

The engine management system will substitute in a value (I think 80 C), so I would definately suspect the Engine Temp. sensor. The dual-sensor controls both gauge and temp. input to ECM. Good luck.

hi kirby, as Charlie mentioned your car way well be fitted with a dual temp sensor on the side of the cylinder head. if it has this type fitted, it is more than likely to be this

Hi Charlie and Master Tech
Thanks for the advice and help. You have confirmed my suspicions about the temperature sensor, is this the one located under the inlet manifold? If so is there any easy way of changing it without removing most of the inlet manifold?

Hello everyone, I've got a "93" existence wonderful car, with 250.000mi. on the speedometer. I'm the second owner. I've had the car for 5yrs no serious problems other than a water pump about 2yrs. ago, but now I as i go into the garage especially after the car has sat for a while I smell gas. And last night i was going to move the car out and it did not start up. It was turning over great! but it took 3-4 min with continually turning the engin before it started, and when it did start over it was like the engin was flooded. So I just raised the engine over a few times to clear it, and drove around the block at a fast clip to blow out the soot and came home and parked the car.hopefully today I will not have the same problem. But what has me more concerned is the smell of fuel. And it seems to be coming from under the hood. What should I be checking for in that area? I would appreciate your feedback.

Hello master tech. I have a "93" BMW 325is coupe. I have
a gas smell problem, it comes from the engine compartment.
Where should I begin to search for the problem, there has to be a leak some where you think, and it maybe obvious to
a novice mechanic like me. My daughter drives the car everyday to work, I'm concerned, the car has 250.000 mi. engine and tranny are in tip top shape, I've had it 5yrs.
always change the oil periodically. Just a fun car to drive. Thanks in advance.

Look at the fuel hoses for cracks. There will be 2 on the injector fuel rail. Also, see if you can spot any dampness on the injector connections or hoses. Look at all the connections on the fuel lines. Sorry I don't have a picture to send you. Keep in mind that a TINY fuel leak can cause a huge odor inside the car. If you smell raw fuel, there is a leak. It may be very hard to locate so have good batteries in your flashlight. If it isn't an obvious one, I try to find the right area by smell.

thanks for the response. I was thinking along those line. Literally, I've noticed today the odor
of gas is not there. I guess with a full tank there is added pressure to the gas system and the leaks where ever they are will open? I look forward communicating with you and others onboard, I really love my little 325is. I will have to post some photos of it. What are some things to do routinely to keep on top of maintenance. I would like to get a code reader/reset tool. What do you reccomend for my car. It's a E36, 2.5 six. Well take care talk with you soon.

Folks,

I would highly recommend creating a new thread for your specific e36 issue rather than adding to this general offer of assistance.

That way you can see all the relevant info in one thread instead of trying to figure out who replied to what.

Why did you replace the cam sensors? P0304 is a misfire code (cyl. #4). Checked the coil?
