Does anyone have any previous knowledge of anything common to the 1.8T that would cause hard starting on a cold start.. Here we go: 41,000 mis all services done.

--Brand new battery, cranks fine

--When entering vehicle, relay energizes fuel pump normal.

--Sit and turn key to on position, fuel pump again energizes, normal

--This hard start happens intermittently but is most common nowadays with the 60 degree farenheit weather and the damp rainy conditions..Coil packs have also already been done under factory recall.

--Once you try to start, will start on second try with a key cycle and everything is normal!!

I sorta think the pressure regulator is getting lazy and bleeding off the initial pressure thats trying to build on a cold start.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.. Fuel filter was done on 40K.....

Probably more likely a vacuum leak, it's a VW. Or coolant temp sensor perhaps...try spraying some starting fluid in it, and that should verify wether it's cold start system or fuel mixture related. I don't think so much residual pressure, because it's less of a wear item and you are only having slight problem. There's a lot of electrical grounds connections and minor things to check after that, if a starting fluid doesn't seem to resolve the problem. It also could be something with the bypass valve not sealing correctly when closed or something of that nature, but I wouldn't go there yet.
