hey i just got an '85 vanagon and my gas gauge doesnt work so of course i run out of gas, but then after pushing it to the gas station and filling it up it does nothing. it turns over and everything but i think it might not be getting any gas. iam way confussed on this anyones advice is much appreciated.

in addition to the "buzz" test, that is if it buzzes but it still won't start, try some of the basic tests.
Having "The Book" will be very useful.
For fuel:
- try a fuel pressure test, if you have a pressure gauge,

• test the injector spray pattern (simply detach

the injector pair on one side at a time,
get an appropriate pan/cup and have someone
try to start it. You should see a cone-shaped spray)
For spark:
- remove one wire at a time and insert a good
spark plug. Touch the engine ground with the
spark plug and have someone crank it.
- test also spark timing
