There are 2 different oil pressure sensors - a low pressure that acts at idle, and a high pressure that is effective over 2000 rpm. As oil pressure gets lower with wear, hot oil, etc. the first sign is usually the light and buzzer acting just over 2000 rpm after a highway run. Drop below 2000 and it stops as the sensor is no longer active. Raise the engine speed and it stops as the pressure increases.
Could be a bad switch - should be the white switch on top of the oil filter mount. Pull off the wiring boot and see if it is leaking oil (very common) - and even if not pressure test it to see if it closes at 26-29 psig.
What weight oil? I like a 5W40 synthetic. If you have been using a 5W30 or 10w30 try the 5W40 instead.

^ Tom is the man, I had that issue, and it was the sensors. Cheap at the dealer, only need a 1" socket to change them. Easy to get to. Don't even get that dirty. :)

Does the 97 Golf TD AAZ 1.9 have the same dual oil pressure sensor system? I was exiting the freeway today after a high speed run & my oil light began flashing & a warning buzzer sounded for about 10 seconds & then stopped when slowed down to a stop at a light. Everything was fine after that. Oil level is good & no other obvious problems.

I'm not sure what your car has....Guessing, I would say 2.

But from my experience with these oil pressure sensors and oil related items....
If you use a good quality engine oil, and oil filter,
and the levels are fine,
Then I would probably just change out the sensors.

(I think they are around $12-$15 each)
They can be faulty over time. They can get gummed up with junk, and operate incorrectly.

My 96 Jetta will beep at me if I use anything but a VW oil filter.

Here is a pic my last oil sensor, I noticed oil on the terminals, which tells me the sensor is failing.

The oil pressure sensors are colour coded.
Blue, White, Black.....
Makes it easy to get new ones from the dealer.
Takes 10 minutes to switch out!

The one oil sensor is on the right of the cylinder head.
Screws in easily. One wire connection.
Same goes for the second.
It's screwed into the housing on the top of the oil filter.
Change then out. They are cheap.

If your are still getting the beeps.
I would really recomend put in a VW filter from the dealer.

I would think so,
My car doesn't like Fram or Penzoil.

Both of those filters have caused the beep. Now I just stick to dealer oil filter. It's over priced, But I justify as this:
I change the oil myself,
and I get the oil really cheap...($5)

I had that problem, AutoZone has the sensors for around $5, changed both of them, no problem, and a clean job to do!

I'm finding that when the ABA gets to have high mileage, don't use anything but a 10W30 or 10W40, 5WAnything is looking for trouble. Other thing is the darn engine is sensitive to any moisture in the oil, raises cain with the sensors, had that issue with a 98 Jetta, only driven on short trips, needed a oil change and a long drive to get 'er to settle down.

Change the white sensor.
And make sure you are using quality oil and especially a quality filter.
I can only use MANN filters in my car.

If this keeps happening, you may need to pull the oil pan and check the screen on the pump.
If the screen is plugged, you won't get good oil flow.

What he said. Mann, Mahle or WIX filters only. This often happens to older cars. Likely you'll need to use different weights of oil summer vs winter. Use a 5 or 10W in the winter and 30W in the summer and always a multi-weight oil. Straight weight oils are usually recycled and inferior.
