I just bought the new 2005 A6 3.2. because of limited stock I have to buy one without the GPS navigation installed. I then discovered that in my MMI panel I do have "nav" button and also in the trunk I have some extra wires availaible with empty slot for the DVD drive. Does anybody know what DVD NAV system/computer need to be installed in trunk and how to hook it up with the availaible extra wires provided. Please be descriptive coz I dont know much about these stuff.

Thanks

Your car can have the navigation added after you purchase the car. Your audi dealer should be able to get you the unit, and intall it for you.

After getting very mixed signals from a number of Audi dealers (most told me it wasn't possible or that it required a "$1000 wiring harness as well as $2000 in parts and labor", I bought a kit from Miramar VW/Audi (parts@miramarvwaudi.com). The kit cost $1200 for the DVD player (which goes in the trunk), connection harness/splice (fiber optic), electrical harness (with fuse) and GPS antenna (the kit uses a separate antenna rather than the existing shark fin, but it goes in a factory-specific location). The instructions were clear, the installation went without a hitch and it's worked for a year without any problems. I will note that I also had to upgrade my MMI software to the most recent level in order to make it all work properly. The dealer charged $100 for that.

I know this is an old post, so for others who are this i shall comment. You could use the shark fin if you wanted, I found a connector harness under the A pillar trim on the driver's side. I am new to this forum so not sure how to post pictures. There should be a blue connector that you just connect your antenna cable to. also have directions for anyone who is interested.
