How do I go about fixing the wire? It broke off right where the wire enters the back of the connector. I can't figure out how the terminal comes out of the housing, or I would take the terminal out and solder it and put it back in.

There is a locking tab on one side of the contact that is pushed in by a small flat probe pressed in from the contact side, and then the connector is pushed out the wire side.
The dealer can order repair pigtails that have the contacts on a foot or so of wire, so that one will repair two contacts. Fit the new contact and splice the wire in. They also supply new connector shells, and the cost isn't bad.
So you can experiment with your own repair, knowing you can easily replace the whole connector.

I called one VW dealer and they said they can't order the part. I' have to bring it in so they could do it. Darn STEALership.

Any idea where to find the part number?

Strange, I buy these kinds of things all the time from my dealer parts dept.
I believe this is the same common 2-pin connector used several places, and if so the wire repair pigtail is part # 000-979-133 (list $4.00), and the connector housing is 037-906-240 (list $4.97).

Thanks for the P/N. With a Google search on the P/N I was able to find this link, which showed me how to get the contact out of the housing.

http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?p=672727

I was able to remove the contact and solder it to the wire end. Works good until I can get the parts ordered and installed.

Thanks!!!
