1996 Jetta GL 2.0L

Everything works fine except for the speedometer, odometer is not increasing either. Speed sensor was just replaced.

I replaced my old cluster, when I turned the key to on the tach would vibrate a bit.

The new cluster doesn't jerk whatsoever when I turn the key to the on position. Everything else works just fine, just no speedometer/odometer.

Now is it the cluster again? Harness or fuse? What fuse to I have to look at for the cluster? And if it is the harness where would I find a replacement for that.

If there is anything else to look for please tell me.

Thanks.

It's the cluster(s)... both of them are in fact to blame.

Sorry about the late response... didn't see the post right away.
You have two different issues. The "no speedo & tach" is the typical Home Response Failure.
This is not an easy fix.
The other guages coming and going might a bad connection at the back of the cluster.

If your cluster has the MFA option... then it gets a little trickier... they calibrate a little different.
Through software that is.

If you want me to fix it, gauranteed... email me.. I'll send you the info.

I have had a failed tachometer and speedometer for a year or so now. I have been working on the problem, and finally devised a very simple (if not crude) fix. You can see how I did it at my web site. I installed stops on the dial face. This is very crude I know, but it works very well. Here is the link for more details: http://www.design1ng.com/projects/jettaclusterrepair

Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks. mark(a)design1ng.com

I seem to have the same problem. However, the e-mail address on the post is not recognized by my server. Do you have a new address?

Hey there. I have a 1994 jetta 2.0L. I have been building this car for several years now. Just got it running. My clock and odometer come on when the battery is hooked up. Though when I turn the key on I don't get any response from the dummy lights, fuel gauge, temp, speedo or tach. Any thoughts the car has been sitting for a couple of years so not sure what it could be. Thanks for your help!

This happened to me two years ago , itīs simply to solve , is just the little motor of the tach or speedo , is
faulty , and when one doesnīt work the other one doesnīt either . Normally when you start the car ( engine cold ) both works , but when you start the car and the engine is warmed up , it wont .
Just go the a cluster specialist , and it will be solved in an hour ! Itīs more work to remove the cluster than replacing this little motors that drives the needles of the tach and speedo .
