Need help!
Rad coolant leaks out the flyweel case. Does anyone have any idea the coolant may leaks from?
My mecanic suggest to remove transaxle just to see where it comes from. This means an 8 hour job.
Motor is a 2.5l with a 5 speed manual transmission & A/C.

Most common leak that I have see is from the coolant flange at the side of the head... coolant runs down the head/block and then follows the engine / tranny seam to the bottom and then to the pan / pavement.

If the plastic flange is OK and you are sure it is coming from inside the engine / tranny bellhousing , then it could be a frost plug... picture attached.

I've never seen / had one that leaked, but it could happen.

I haven't done a clutch on a EV for some time, so I don't recall the actual number of frost plugs at the side of the block... found that picture in one of the service manuals I have.

I assume it is accurate... one of the tiny ones might be an oil gallery plug?

EDIT:

Ignore distributor in image....

Thanks for your reply. Coolant seems leaking from frost caps. I'll try to find someone to fix this at a reasonnable cost.

We did a clutch on a 93 this week... after removing the top left tansmission bolt, coolant came out of the bolt hole! You could see the #5 cyl water jacket through the hole.

Forgot to take picture of engine with flywheel off... wanted to confirm my original post above about the frost plug.

Did you get yours sorted out?
