You can't. You need someone like me to program it in...

Why are you repacing the cluster? Is there something wring with it?

There is BobD,

The cluster has only three functioning pieces. The temp gage the fuel level and the current milage, none of the other mesurements; ambient temp, mpg etc, spedometer or tachometer work. I am able to order a replacement for around 60 dollars but the mileage will not be accurate. How is it possible to update the mileage on the cluster diy.

I don't think you can correct the mileage through a self DIY. Haven't heard of anyway to do it except through software.
Vagcom wont work. The cluster isn't part of the Can-Bus.... As in, you can not connect to the cluster through the OBD port.
I'm able to do it through my laptop.

Why don't you first try resoldering the two multi pin wire harness connectors to circuit board connections. Theirs two large connectors that attach to the back of the cluster. Resolder them to the circuit board and see if that fixes your problem. They are prone to cracked/cold solder joints.

Hey Bobd,
How does one get ahold of you to send a VW cluster for a repair? I saw in these blogs you might be able to help me. I just bought this 99 vw cabrio auto for my kid, and the speedo/tach work sometimes, but usually not. The speedo just shakes about in the o mph range and the tach does nothing. Everything else works.

Can you please help?
