i have a 97 jetta vr6 5spd and its a pretty cool car just has some issues....the biggest being the gauge cluster not working...speedo and tach never work...once in awhile the tach will twitch at zero...if u give the dash a good smack u can get the temp and gas gauge to work....sometimes.....any help or suggestions will b greatly appreciated...thanks

Most if not all of your problems are just bad solder connections on the gauge cluster printed circuit board. It's very easy to remove the cluster, takes about 15 minutes.

On the back of the cluster there are two large multi pin connectors that are soldered to the printed circuit board. Get yourself some solder and a fine tip soldering iron and resolder all the pins on both connectors. Also look over the rest of the PC board for poor solder joints. If you do a google search you should find a few sites that will show you the exact location of some of the poor connections.
