Hi again Guy's

I have a A3 VW Jetta and am about to do my first steering rack replacement (TRW) on my DD.
In the Bentley manual, the author suggests removing the two universal joint bolts ( 48-12, figure 13) and then lower the rack for removal. However, to me, it seems that it would be much easier by removing the single bolt, on the lower UJ, which goes through the splined/slotted part of the power steering rack itself ( 48-9, figure 10, part #16).

Has anyone done it this way, or should I stick to what the book suggests?

Thanks for any help!

Which ever is easier for you... the book is just a guide.

Some prefer to remove the joint inside, others below.
